Land RoverG4 Challenge Scouts Take Shape

 

With an exciting new format the forthcoming 2008/9 Land Rover G4 Challenge is already in full swing and scouts have been sent out to find the world’s truly spectacular urban and wilderness locations.

South Africa is no exception and as defending champions every effort is being made to create conditions as close as possible to the global challenge for regional and national selections to find a team (male & female) equipped to hold onto the trophy.

 


And while Magnetic South scouts in Lesotho - Mark Collins is about to leave for the next Land Rover G4 Recce in Mongolia preparing the main Land Rover G4 Challenge.

PORTLAND MANOR, KNYSNA:  Many regular competitors agreed that the Salomon Night Run and the Vaude Night Bike were“the toughest so far” - but this didn't prevent them from enjoying their evening with steep uphills and lots of mud.

The Land Rover G4 Challenge is the world ultimate global adventure. Former Challenge winner, and arguably South Africa 's most accomplished adventure athlete, Martin Dreyer described the 2006 G4 Challenge as the best thing he had ever done. Not only is the Land Rover G4 Challenge 2009/10 taking place in the wildest place on earth; Mongolia, but the format has modified to include a woman competitor in each national team of two.

Salomon Featherbed Trail Run a Triumph

KNYSNA - Sold out weeks before it began, the inaugural Salomon Featherbed Trail Run was a triumph for the organisers, the sponsors, the Pick ‘n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival - and, of course, the athletes.

The race was open to trail runners in two categories - the 13 km ‘Coelacanth' and the 8 km ‘Seahorse.' Both courses took best advantage of the views of Knysna and the coast - but what made them unique was the ferry ride to the start (ferries were sponsored by the Featherbed Company), the home run across the old railway bridge on the Knysna Lagoon - and the finish at the prestigious Cruise Cafe Restaurant on the water's edge.

Plettenberg Bay; 21st of September 2008


South African Multi-sport legend Martin Dreyer carved his name into Bitou Tourisms' Sporting history books by winning the inaugural “Robberg Express Multisport Challenge” in September last year.
The Express, now nicknamed “The Shark” by most competitors for the treacherous nature of the course, is a Multi-sport race involving a 35 km Mountain bike, a 10 km Mountain Run and a 10 km Ocean Paddle and was named after another legendary Plettenberg bay character, a six meter plus White Shark known to frequent the waters of the courses' Surf Ski route.

Last year South African swimming sensation Natalie Du Toit set the Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge alive with her record breaking open water swim.

 

Already in the planning stages the 2008 Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge is going to be into a must do event for all those who will be in the Plettenberg Bay area over the upcoming December Christmas Holiday season.
