What are the disciplines and the distances for the 2011 event?

Wednesday 28th December, Central Beach Plettenberg Bay

OCEAN SWIM: +/- 6 km (min. age: 12, unless swimming fit and accompanied by an adult) -  If the water temperature is < 12 degrees on the day of the event wetsuits are compulsory.

The swim starts at Robberg Rocks and finishes at Central Beach. All swimmers will be transported to the start venue in the morning. Swimmers will be accompanied by the NSRI and safety paddlers with shark shield equipment.

OCEAN PADDLE: 15 km
The early Portuguese didn’t call this bay ‘Baia Formosa’ or the beautiful bay for nothing. Paddling 15 km parallel to the coastline will reward you with marvellous backdrops of the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains. Start- and finish at Central Beach. (official category: singles; if you want to paddle in a double you can do so, you will be timed and ranked, but don’t qualify for prizes)

compulsory equipment:

PFD (lifejacket), CELLPHONE (in waterproof bag) and LEASH (paddle to boat) is the minimum safety equipment required before a paddler can set out to sea.

RUN: 10 km

A 10 km run through Plettenberg Bay’s scenic town – starting and finishing at Central Beach.

And for the not so competitive:

BEACH FUN WALK: +/-3 km (no times taken)

Thursday 29th December, Kurland Polo Estate

Staged Triathlon (500 m swim, 25 km MTB, 10 km Trail Run): A staged Triathlon, starting with a cozy swim in a dam, a scenic MTB ride and a spectacular 10km Trail Run.

-

500 m Dam Swim: A short swim of 500 meters in Kurland’s own dam.

-

25 km MTB Ride: A scenic and challenging MTB ride through indigenous and plantation forest.

-

10 km Trail Run: The Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge Trail Run takes place on the magnificent Kurland Polo Estate in the Crags 20 minutes’ drive from Plettenberg bay. Starting and finishing at the marque pavilion the balanced route is achievable for beginners yet testing and diverse enough to delight the proficient trail runners as well.  At 10 km the varied course takes in open meadows, plantation paths, tracts of indigenous forests, fynbos and a twist up a pristine fern draped valley. Two water crossings on route will ensure that no participant will make it back to the pavilion with dry feet or without a smile.

-

SABRINA KIDS OF STEEL: A Duathlon for the younger ones (6-12 years). Short run and swim (no times taken)
