As the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival approaches, Magnetic South is exceptionally proud to announce the involvement of three leading brands in the world of Adventure / Multisport racing. SALOMON Adventure Nights – PETZL Night Run

The 2008 event was without doubt the toughest so far, and competitors’ exertions were rewarded by the rare opporunity to see untouched reaches of the Knysna River and its ravines. This year the very prestigious Simola Golf & Country Estate will host the SALOMON Adventure Nights incorporating the PETZL Night Run. Participants armed with their SALOMON gear and PETZL headlamps will negotiate their way around a challenging course, followed by some 5 star treatment in the form of a Simola luxurious hot shower to reward their efforts. Registration, Start and Finish all happens in the plush environs of the Simola Golf Club with its top class bar, restaurant and lounge facilities.

There is a category for everyone so no matter if your preference is to race the PRO (racing snakes) OPEN (novices) or JUNIOR (family) routes get your teams together…..

SALOMON Adventure Nights – CAPESTORM Night Bike

Competitors last year will never forget the wet and muddy conditions, complete with a good dose of healthy cow manure, that turned the 2008 Night Bike into an experience of epic proportions. Scouting for this years route has (un)fortunately not located a high concentration of the bovine component, but we will keep trying (only kidding !!) There is a hefty dose of luxury for all our participants as the Registration, Start and Finish will be hosted by the 5 Star Simola Golf & Country Estate. Participants will have access to hot showers, super smart lounges and a well stocked bar/restaurant. In addition, your adventurous efforts as you tackle Golf Course tracks, Jeep and Single Track all decked out in your SALOMON and CAPESTORM gear, as always, comes with the essential component of a Magnetic South surprise.

The SALOMON Featherbed Trail Run
Don’t miss the boat!!!

The SALOMON Featherbed Trail Run offers the unique experience of a ferry trip across the Knysna Lagoon to the start of the race in the Featherbed Reserve. On this trail run you will take in the pristine indigenous forests, conquer the craggy Western Heads, wind down a fynbos trail to the lagoon edge before crossing the Outeniqua Tjoo Tjoo railway line bridge to finish back at the Cruise Café in Knysna.

Featherbed Nature Reserve is open to Trail Running for ONE DAY only in the entire year !

The 2009 Salomon Featherbed Trail Run has doubled in size and entries recieved are already way above that of last year. Be aware that participant numbers are limited for this popular event to what the ferries can carry. The Entry fee to the 2009 event has been re-structured to include a meal at Knysna’s very fashionable Cruise Café.
This year entrants will have the choice betwene a Morning and Afternoon run.
The Morning Run, which includes the two routes (8km Seahorse & 14 km Coelacanth), will be followed by a brunch.
The Afternoon Run also includes the two routes (8km Seahorse & 14 km Coelacanth), followed by supper.

Note it is possible to complete all of the above events in ordinary trail running shoes, ordinary clothing and with an ordinary headlamp, but who on earth would want to put themselves at such a disadvantage? For more info on these industry leading gear suppliers, see the following websites :

Southern Storm & The Otter Run

The Otter Run is a 2-day Trail Run with a 8km Prologue on day 1 and a 45 km Trail Run along the iconic 5-day Otter Hiking Trail on the second day of the race. The Southern Storm is a 6 day individual or team relay duathlon featuring trail running and mountain biking and includes the Otter Run.
For those of you still interested of competing in the Southern Storm or the Otter Run we have a total of 24 places remaining (19 and 5 respectively). Another boat not to be missed!
