TSiBA Eden & Magnetic South Community Development Project Launched

In what has to be one of the most ambitious community projects undertaken taken to date – to develop and train members of the local community, to assist with sports eventing, has just been launched with great  success.

Knysna based event organisers Magnetic South have introduced a very exciting project in partnership with the TSiBA Eden, a business school based in Karatara.

The Southern Storm 2010 includes an educational Skills development program

Together with TSiBA Eden, Magnetic South started a joint venture project for the 2010 Southern Storm with focus on the following:

• Incentivise students with initiative by uplifting them into positions with more responsibility
• Magnetic South to hold frequent courses in Events Management at TSiBA Eden
• Subcontract services and create a business opportunity for TSiBA Eden

Who is TSiBA?

The Tertiary School in Business Administration (TSiBA) was founded in 2004 with a vision to “ignite opportunity”. TSiBA is a unique private not for profit higher education institution that offers emerging leaders an opportunity to  study an enriched degree that is focused on developing entrepreneurship and leadership. In isiXhosa, tsiba means ‘to jump’ and our aim is to provide high quality education for people with a social conscience who have the desire and the skills to build our nation.
TSiBA is registered and accredited with the Department of Education as a private higher education institution. Part of  this institution is an urban campus in Pinelands, Cape Town and a rural campus in the town of Karatara, near Knysna.

Magnetic South supports Development Adventure Racing

Having enjoyed and experienced the many benefits the world of Adventure Racing and Multi Sport has brought to the Magnetic South Team, it has been a case of passing on this wealth of knowledge to the community here on the Garden Route either in the establishment of the Samsat powered by Menshealth Development Adventure Racing Team or more recently by restructuring and establishing a new and very unique outreach programme to the Montessori Adventure Racing School or MARS as it is affectionatly known.

Magnetic South has encouraged the local AR and Multi Sport community on the Garden Route to get involved with the MARS project, and at the moment has 11 individuals with skills ranging from leading mountainbikers, to top provincial kayakers, to navigation experts and mentor development fundis, just to name a few, who are giving of their time at no charge to pass on the skills required to one day become a leading South African Multi Sport Athlete.

Lectures and practical sessions lasting for 3 hours every Monday afternoon, have also included the very important and often neglected aspect of environmental awareness. So not only are the MARS racers being taught how to be faster and smarter on their feet, but also how best to leave their environment unspoilt by humankind. This holistic approach which includes a combination of classroom lectures followed by practical sessions in a variety of stunning locations from lagoons to mountain fynbos regions, will empower a new generation of youth to embrace a healthier lifestyle through sport that also gives one an appreciation for the incredible natural wonders that can be found out there and not via the Playstation or Nintendo Wii.
